Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ilya Kushnevich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Curtis Rome!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Steven Brown and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rome closes the distance and clinches.

Kushnevich pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kushnevich looks for a takedown but Rome sprawls well.

Kushnevich fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rome to the ground. Kushnevich is now in Rome's guard.

Kushnevich got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rome has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kushnevich has managed to get both his arms back between Rome's legs - danger averted.
Rome looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kushnevich throws a big elbow that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kushnevich postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rome looking for a sweep. Not yet Rome, not yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kushnevich missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Rome is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rome has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kushnevich can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kushnevich postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Rome trying to control the position.
Kushnevich with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Rome trying to keep a closed guard but Kushnevich is proving a slippery customer.
Kushnevich has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Rome is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kushnevich is aware though and is defending well.

Rome working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kushnevich doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kushnevich manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kushnevich pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rome is keeping the position for now.

Rome had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kushnevich defends it easily.

Rome throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Rome controls Kushnevich momentarily but Kushnevich frees himself.

Kushnevich stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Rome throws up his legs and catches Kushnevich in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Kushnevich tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Rome! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Curtis Rome!
After winning the bout, Curtis Rome thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
