PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kung Li (ranked 3623 p4p, 4646 weight class) and Sam Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kung Li!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Jones !
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Li swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Li uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Jones has time to react.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.
Jones has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Li is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Li lands a hook to the side of the head.
Li makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
A head punch on the inside from Li fails to land.
Li is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Jones is working for takedown but Li is calmly controlling the position for now.
Kung Li has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Jones .

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Li throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Li closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Li lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Jones or not.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

A right handed body shot lands from Li.

Li ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Li no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Li lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Li not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Li thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Li stands and throws Jones 's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Li is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jones is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Jones parries the strikes from Li easily there. Li is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jones to escape.

Li tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Li is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jones has escaped the position, nice work there.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kung Li dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Jones fails with an attempt to clinch.

Li clinches with his opponent.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Li creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Li.

Li has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jones uses from the top position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Li is on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kung Li overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Li is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Jones shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Li sprawls well. Li wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well Li has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
