Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bert River (ranked 1231 p4p, 400 weight class) and Tommy Gavin (ranked 140 p4p, 54 weight class). River comes to the cage accompanied by Five Finger Death Punch- Bad Company. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Tommy Gavin enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bert River!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tommy Gavin!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gavin takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Gavin avoids the body shot from River.
River swings widly with a right hand
and Gavin counters with a nice body shot.
River thows a left - swing and a miss!
River scores with a leg kick.

River throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gavin was covering up waiting for the punch and River finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Gavin pushes River off and scrambles back to his feet.
Gavin looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
River takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Gavin buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
River misses with an uppercut
and Gavin counters with a stiff right hand.

River clinches up with Gavin and pushes him back against the cage.

Gavin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
No luck for River with that takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gavin throws a jab when River was well out of range.
Gavin avoids the body shot from River.
Gavin takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Bert River seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
River is looking to land body kicks.
Gavin throws a good cross that connects.
River ducks under a wild hook from Gavin.
A low kick from River misses
and Gavin counters with a stiff right hand.

It looks like Bert River has been cut.
River with a nice cross.
River looks to clinch
and Gavin counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Gavin throws an off balance right hand
and River counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
River connects with a nice looking jab.
This has been an exciting period of action!
River misses with a straight right.
Gavin misses with a hook. River ducked under it nicely.

River drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Gavin manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Gavin manages to break the clinch.
Gavin looks to land a right hand but River moved out of range.
River fails to land the takedown.
Gavin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
River attempts a counter takedown but Gavin avoids it well and moves away.
River misses with a wild body shot.
River scores with a head kick. Gavin tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
River takes one to the side of the head.
Gavin misses with an uppercut.
Gavin uses good head movement to avoid the hook from River.
A jab from Gavin misses.
River lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Some bone on bone action there as Gavin checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Gavin checks a leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
River scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
A lazy body kick from River
and Gavin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
River throws a front kick aimed at Gavin's knee but Gavin avoids it well.
Gavin scores with a nice right hand.
Gavin connects with a good right hand that stumbles River. River circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

River is rocked!
Gavin connects with an inside leg kick.
Nice cross by River.

Gavin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
River wants to pass the guard but Gavin is keeping the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gavin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
River throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gavin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
River postures up in Gavin's guard and throws a big left but Gavin blocks it.
River throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Gavin keeping moving, preventing River from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
River postures up and lands a big shot to Gavin's brow.
Gavin is looking to stand back up but River counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Gavin.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
River prevents Gavin from standing back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

River is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Gavin is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bert River!
Our winner, Bert River, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
