Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ruslan Karelin (ranked 190 p4p, 78 weight class) and Jeremy Jones (ranked 29 p4p, 14 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jeremy Jones was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ruslan Karelin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 31 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jeremy Jones! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Karelin shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jones is trying to defend but Karelin finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Jones has one foot on Karelin's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Jones takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Karelin scores with a punch to the head. A cross from Karelin lands. We've been hearing reports that Karelin has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Jones drops his hands momentarily and Karelin takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Karelin misses with an uppercut. Jones looks like he wants to counter punch here. Karelin shoots in looking for a takedown. Jones tries to sprawl out of it but Karelin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jones manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Jones replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Karelin blocks it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Karelin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. It seemed like Jones was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Jab from Karelin. Karelin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jones pinned against the cage. Jones gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. And Jones responds with a good body kick, but Karelin manages to step out the way in time. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ruslan Karelin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jones defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Karelin. Jones tries to land a body kick enabling Karelin to counter with a crisp jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Karelin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jones to the mat! Jones manages to get full guard. Karelin tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard. Karelin is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Jones is adopting a defensive guard. Karelin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Karelin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Karelin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jones is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Karelin, into his guard. Karelin controlling the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Karelin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Karelin is looking to sweep but instead, Jones has passed into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Karelin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Karelin trying to control here.

Karelin actively working from the bottom here. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Karelin throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Jones slows the pace down in half guard.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ruslan Karelin will probably get the nod. That's time! Karelin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. A punch lands to the side of Jones 's head but he takes it in his stride. Jones throws the left hand but Karelin avoids the punch easily. Karelin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jones to the mat! Jones manages to get full guard. Jones keeping moving, preventing Karelin from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Karelin manages to get himself to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round. Karelin trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Karelin being controlled here, momentarily. Karelin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Karelin throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Karelin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Karelin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Karelin trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.
Jones gets to his feet. Karelin looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Karelin throws a chopping leg kick but Jones manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Jones looks like he wants to counter punch here. Jones looks to land a body kick but Karelin moved away. Jones misses with a body kick. Karelin appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Karelin throws a jab when Jones was well out of range. Jones swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Karelin connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Karelin is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Karelin sizes up Jones with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Karelin misses with a low kick as Jones jumps back. Karelin moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromJones. Jones keeps the fight on the outside. Jones steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect. Jones misses with a leg kick and Karelin counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Karelin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one. Karelin tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Karelin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jones's guard. Karelin looking to pass the guard. Jones has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Karelin passes easily into side control. Nice work. Karelin working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Karelin tries to advance to mount but can't. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Ruslan Karelin dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round! Karelin paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Jones blocks a head kick by Karelin.
Jones swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Karelin scores with a nice head shot. Jones throws a looping overhand right but Karelin ducks down to avoid it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Karelin fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Jones looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Karelin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Karelin off to one side.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from Jones. No joy for Karelin on that attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ruslan Karelin. Jones closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Karelin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Karelin loads up on a big right hand but Jones slips the punch. Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.
Karelin fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Jones looks like he wants to counter punch here. Karelin throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. It seemed like Jones was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Jones bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Jones steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

and Karelin counters with a straight right hand. Karelin moves into range and connects with a jab. Jones leaves Karelin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Ruslan Karelin is winning the standup battle so far. Karelin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Jones blocking some punches.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Karelin. Karelin throws a punch but it's blocked by Jones.

Jones throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Karelins head. Karelin scores with a nice hook to the head. Jones blocks a punch to the side of the head.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jones misses with a short punch on the inside. Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jeremy Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Karelin fails with the takedown and Jones counters with a stiff right hand. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Nice sprawl there from Jones as Karelin shoots in. Jones is looking for the big counter here. Ruslan Karelin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Jones stuffs the takedown. Jones unleashes a big counter combination but Karelin bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ruslan Karelin. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Karelin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
