PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Ochoa (ranked 632 p4p, 796 weight class) and Akira Maeda (ranked 91 p4p, 120 weight class). Ochoa comes to the cage accompanied by Gang Signs by The Game. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Ochoa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Akira Maeda!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paulsen Ambrosius and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ochoa throws the left hand but Maeda avoids the punch easily.
And Maeda tries to counter it with a takedown but Ochoa pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Jab by Ochoa.
Maeda throws a body shot but no joy.
Maeda fails with the takedown.
Maeda throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ochoa stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Maeda slips a straight right by Ochoa.
Maeda with the counter takedown but Ochoa avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maeda moves out of range as Ochoa throws a body kick.
Maeda closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Ochoa attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Maeda shoots in and drives through. Ochoa sprawls well.

Maeda scores with a crisp jab that stopped Ochoa in his tracks.
Ochoa misses with a body shot.
Maeda feints the counter takedown.

Maeda drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Maeda throws an elbow that misses. Ochoa uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Maeda's guard. Nice move by Ochoa!

Maeda has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Maeda has a closed guard, preventing Ochoa from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maeda pulls Ochoa in close to his closed guard and prevents Ochoa from doing any damage or advancing position.
Maeda's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Maeda has Ochoa pulled in close to control his posture.
Ochoa wants to stand but Maeda is controlling his posture from full guard.
Maeda is pulling down on Ochoa's head to control his posture.

Ochoa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Maeda on the ground.
Maeda bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ochoa's guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Maeda is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Ochoa is looking to stand up but Maeda isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Maeda moves away from the strike by Ochoa.
Ochoa throws a body punch but Maeda moves out of range.
Ochoa takes a swing at Maeda's ribcage but misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Maeda works Ochoa's body with a nice hook.
Ochoa takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Ochoa needs to keep his hands up - Maeda had a free shot at his head there.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Akira Maeda will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Maeda goes for a double leg but Ochoa avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ochoa continues to drive forward.
Ochoa throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Ochoa tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Maeda looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ochoa is fending him off so far but Maeda persists. Nope, Ochoa circles away and we're back to standing.
Ochoa displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Maeda throws out the jab.
Ochoa swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Maeda working his ground and pound in the gym.

Maeda not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Maeda lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Maeda content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Maeda tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ochoa knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Maeda seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ochoa does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Maeda winds up and cracks Ochoa with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Maeda lands a nice hook to Ochoa's body. Ochoa takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maeda accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ochoa wants to stand and escape but Maeda is having none of it.

We've been told by Ochoa's head coaches at Primal Concrete Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Ochoa buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Maeda looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ochoa is fending him off so far but Maeda persists. Nope, Ochoa circles away and we're back to standing.

Maeda closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Ochoa takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Maeda works to advance to full mount. Ochoa defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Well,Ochoa is on his way to losing a decision here. Can he use his experience to pull something off in the closing minutes?

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Maeda pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Ochoa on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Ochoa tries to get out of the position.

Maeda lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Maeda is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ochoa can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

You get the feeling that Ochoa really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Akira Maeda is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Let's hope that Maeda has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Anthony Ochoa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
