PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tau Masunwendinghamar (ranked 1211 p4p, 2907 weight class) and Evan MacMillan (ranked 25 p4p, 66 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Masunwendinghamar might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Weltschmerz. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tau Masunwendinghamar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Evan MacMillan!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Kenichi Hosakawa and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MacMillan uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Masunwendinghamar.

MacMillan shoots in and gets a takedown into Masunwendinghamar's guard.
MacMillan trying to control but Masunwendinghamar is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
MacMillan postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
MacMillan looking to pass the guard.
MacMillan trying to control the position from guard on top but Masunwendinghamar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
MacMillan throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

MacMillan stands up over Masunwendinghamar, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Masunwendinghamar can't keep his opponent in guard - MacMillan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

MacMillan wants to control from the top but Masunwendinghamar keeps moving.
Masunwendinghamar working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from MacMillan.
MacMillan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
MacMillan won't allow Masunwendinghamar to get back to his feet.

MacMillan drops back looking for a leg! Masunwendinghamar is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Masunwendinghamar manages to kick MacMillan off! MacMillan jumps back into Masunwendinghamar's guard.
MacMillan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Masunwendinghamar wants to stand up but MacMillan is controlling him.
MacMillan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
MacMillan trying to control but Masunwendinghamar is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
MacMillan connects with a couple of short punches.
Masunwendinghamar wants to stand up but MacMillan is controlling him.
MacMillan scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Masunwendinghamar keeping moving, preventing MacMillan from controlling successfully.
MacMillan distracts Masunwendinghamar with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
MacMillan trying to control but Masunwendinghamar is working from the bottom.
MacMillan slips nicely into half guard.

MacMillan is looking for a kimura here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

MacMillan is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
MacMillan prevents Masunwendinghamar from standing back up.
Masunwendinghamar has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

MacMillan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Masunwendinghamar is just riding it out for now. MacMillan eventually gives up the hold.

MacMillan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

MacMillan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Masunwendinghamar has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Masunwendinghamar is looking to escape.
MacMillan is looking to stall here but Masunwendinghamar recovers full guard.
MacMillan wants to control from the top but Masunwendinghamar keeps moving.
Masunwendinghamar wants to stand but MacMillan is controlling the position.
MacMillan wants to pass the guard but Masunwendinghamar is keeping the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
MacMillan stops Masunwendinghamar from standing up.
MacMillan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
MacMillan scoring with punches to the head and body.
MacMillan stands and throws Masunwendinghamar's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Evan MacMillan dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

MacMillan moves away from the strike by Masunwendinghamar.
MacMillan avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

MacMillan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than MacMillan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

MacMillan tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Masunwendinghamar is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, MacMillan asserts his dominance and retains side control.
MacMillan cracks Masunwendinghamar with a big right hand but Masunwendinghamar just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Masunwendinghamar is not content to let MacMillan control the position.

MacMillan is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Masunwendinghamar is trying to escape and MacMillan transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Masunwendinghamar is forced to tap! Nice work there by MacMillan! Very nice indeed!
