Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jyrki Sukulaku (ranked 574 p4p, 1359 weight class) and Roberto Soldic (ranked 79 p4p, 176 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jyrki Sukulaku! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roberto Soldic! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Shimada and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Soldic lands with a cross. Soldic lands a jab to Sukulaku's midsection. Sukulaku connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Soldic momentarily.
It looks like Roberto Soldic has been cut. Soldic throws a combination that misses and Sukulaku counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Soldic gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. The fighters circling - Sukulaku throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Sukulaku has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Finch Gym in the buildup to the fight. Sukulaku throws a shot from downtown. Soldic moves away and avoids it. Soldic connects with a right hand. Sukulaku shakes it off. Sukulaku uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Soldic has time to react. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sukulaku rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Soldic makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Sukulaku really felt that one! Sukulaku throws a lazy right hand but Soldic sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Sukulaku throws a right hand that misses
and Soldic counters with a straight right hand. Sukulaku rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Soldic counters with a stiff right hand. Soldic misses the shot to the body. Sukulaku was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
That's one minute gone in the round. Soldic defending well as Sukulaku loads up on a big left hand. Sukulaku fails to land with a series of punches.
Soldic moves out of range as Sukulaku strikes. Sukulaku throws a poor cross that misses
and Soldic counters with a left to the body. Sukulaku throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Sukulaku throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Soldic throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sukulaku on the side of the head. A punch lands to the side of Sukulaku 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Sukulaku is rocked! Sukulaku throws a lazy uppercut
and Soldic counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Sukulaku looks to land a right hand but Soldic moved out of range. Soldic now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Soldic fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Sukulaku looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A big left from Sukulaku misses. Soldic blocks a jab. Sukulaku is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sukulaku takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Oh Sukulaku is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Soldic takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Sukulaku seems to have got his legs back now. Good exchange - Soldic coming out on top. Sukulaku throws a hook but Soldic avoids it easily. Soldic slips a straight right by Sukulaku. Sukulaku misses with a lunging right hand
and Soldic counters with a thumping low kick. Jyrki Sukulaku seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice shot by Sukulaku.
That has opened up Roberto Soldic's cut even more. Soldic has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off. Soldic blocks a head kick by Sukulaku.
Soldic doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Sukulaku looks to land a combination but Soldic avoids it well. Soldic cracks Sukulaku with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Sukulaku looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Soldic finish him?
Sukulaku glances at the clock... BAM! Soldic nails him with a big right hand! A momentary lapse in concentration sends Sukulaku crashing to the mat! The referee steps in and this one is over! Damn, Sukulaku is out of it, he thinks the ref is his opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Roberto Soldic! During a confident post fight interview, Roberto Soldic thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
