PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Konstantin The Russian Giant (ranked 2618 p4p, 2751 weight class) and Igor Vi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The Russian Giant comes into the arena with Soda Popinski Theme blaring out of the sound system. Vi has chosen Suspicious Minds - Elvis Presley as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Konstantin The Russian Giant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Igor Vi!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Illya Tyunina and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vi tries to close the distance and clinch up but The Russian Giant swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The Russian Giant shoots in and drives through. Vi sprawls well.
The Russian Giant throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Vi goes for a double leg but The Russian Giant avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as The Russian Giant continues to drive forward.
Vi is looking to clinch.

The Russian Giant moves into range and clinches up with Vi.

The Russian Giant breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The Russian Giant takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

The Russian Giant keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Vi's efforts to push away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vi wants to break free but The Russian Giant has control.
The Russian Giant is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Vi gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The Russian Giant manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Vi manages to get himself to full guard.

The Russian Giant has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The Russian Giant perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Vi makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
The Russian Giant stuffs the takedown attempt from Vi. Vi gets slowly back to his feet.

It looks like Igor Vi has been cut.

Vi is trying to force a seperation but The Russian Giant has the dominant position.
The Russian Giant keeps control of Vi as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

The Russian Giant is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The Russian Giant slips a nice elbow through Vi's hands, connecting with Vi's forehead.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vi can do anything to dispel that myth.

The Russian Giant throws a series of punches but Vi avoids them all with ease.

Vi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

The Russian Giant feints and as Vi raises his hands in defense, The Russian Giant changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The Russian Giant postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Vi to stand up.

The Russian Giant closes the distance and clinches.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Igor Vi's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

It seemed like Vi was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

The Russian Giant is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Vi rolls with it to try and escape but The Russian Giant cranks on the arm and Vi is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Konstantin The Russian Giant very nearly forgot to thank Shadow Realm Apparel amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
In defeat, Igor Vi stepped up to the mic, saying 'He wouldn't survive another 5 minutes with me.'.
