Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jake Bird (ranked 850 p4p, 495 weight class) and Ryszard Wojcik (ranked 118 p4p, 70 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jake Bird has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jake Bird seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 21 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jake Bird! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 30 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryszard Wojcik! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wojcik lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Wojcik waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Bird. As Wojcik tries to get set, Bird tries to push him back and clinch up but Wojcik manages to avoid the attempt. Bird stuns Wojcik with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Bird walks into a straight right hand from Wojcik. Bird scores with a jab. Wojcik acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Bird takes a body punch but keeps moving. Bird displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Wojcik throws out the jab. We've been informed that Wojcik has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Wojcik defending well as Bird loads up on a big left hand. Wojcik throws a body shot but no joy. Bird slips under a jab. Bird looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Bird takes a swing at Wojcik's ribcage but misses. A little jabbing left from Wojcik on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Wojcik gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Wojcik wants to clinch up but Bird keeps it at a distance. Bird jabs Wojcik to the body, keeping him at a distance. Bird fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Wojcik looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bird avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Nice jab there from Bird. Bird dips to his left and cracks Wojcik with an uppercut! Jake Bird seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bird cracks a nice hook into Wojcik's ribs. Wojcik takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Wojcik waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Bird. Bird lands a head shot. Bird misses with the combination.
Bird sizes up Wojcik with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Bird swings and misses with a hook to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Bird gets a takedown into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Wojcik won't allow Bird to pass to mount. Wojcik wants to get back to full guard. Wojcik gets back to full guard.

Bird stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wojcik swivels though and keeps the full guard. Wojcik is trying to hold Bird in close to prevent damage but Bird has managed to pass into half guard.
Bird has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Bird looking for a guillotine from mount but Wojcik is having none of it. Bird jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Wojcik manages to avoid the submission attempt. Bird working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bird is looking to take a break and control but Wojcik is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Bird is trying to get an arm triangle but Wojcik is defending well. Wojcik is trying to improve his position. Wojcik is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now. Wojcik gets back to half guard. Wojcik is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Bird is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Jake Bird dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Bird bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Wojcik's head backwards. Bird misses with a takedown attempt - Wojcik sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Wojcik tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Bird throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Wojcik tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bird is in Wojcik's guard. Wojcik is trying to keep Bird in close.
Bird being controlled here momentarily. Wojcik lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wojcik got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bird has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wojcik has managed to get both his arms back between Bird's legs - danger averted. Bird is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wojcik defends well. Bird has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wojcik can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bird keeping moving, preventing Wojcik from controlling successfully. Bird wants to sweep here but Wojcik controlling him for the moment. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Bird holds on and takes a little breather. Wojcik must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Wojcik wants to control from the top but Bird keeps moving. Bird trying to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Wojcik pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wojcik is figuring out what he wants to do next. Bird wants to get back to full guard. Bird is looking to control Wojcik's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bird avoid being mounted? Bird wants to improve his position but Wojcik is controlling well.

God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Bird is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wojcik pulls his head out easily. Jake Bird dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round! Bird ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Wojcik moves away. Wojcik throws out a counter right but Bird avoids it with no problem. Bird throws a sloppy body shot
and Wojcik counters with a nice uppercut. Bird throws a jab when Wojcik was well out of range. Wojcik steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Bird. Wojcik ducks under a wild hook from Bird. Bird doesn't succeed with the takedown and Wojcik counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Bird moves in looking to clinch but Wojcik pushes him off. Bird throws a jab when Wojcik was well out of range. Bird lands a nice hook to Wojcik's body. Wojcik takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wojcik misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bird.

and Wojcik counters with a nice right hand that sends Bird toppling to the canvas! Bird scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Wojcik finish him?!
Bird is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Bird misses with a lunging right hand
and Wojcik counters with a huge overhand right that connects right on the temple, sending him crumpling, face first to the floor! This one is all over! What a knockout!
