Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chad Coleman (ranked 2132 p4p, 2091 weight class) and Eddie McDermott (ranked 294 p4p, 292 weight class). McDermott has chosen I'm Shipping up to Boston as his entrance music. Eddie McDermott acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chad Coleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eddie McDermott!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Russell Pearce and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coleman tries for a takedown but McDermott sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Coleman misses with a takedown attempt - McDermott sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Coleman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. McDermott defends it nicely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McDermott throws a shot from downtown. Coleman moves away and avoids it.
Coleman goes for a double leg but McDermott avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as McDermott continues to drive forward.
Coleman jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as McDermott walks away with a smile on his face. Coleman gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Coleman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Coleman throws a strike but McDermott rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Coleman is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

McDermott must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
McDermott won't allow Coleman to get back to his feet.

Coleman has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. McDermott has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Coleman looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks McDermott with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McDermott told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Chad Coleman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McDermott missing with a left hand there. Coleman was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Coleman drops down looking for a counter takedown but McDermott sprawls and moves away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chad Coleman will probably get the nod.

McDermott lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by McDermott.

Coleman attempts a counter takedown but McDermott avoids it well and moves away.

and Coleman takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Coleman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McDermott avoids it really well and circles away.
McDermott has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
McDermott misses the jab.
McDermott works Coleman's body with a nice hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Horrible takedown attempt by Coleman or perhaps it was just good defense by McDermott, which made it look bad.
Coleman takes one to the side of the head.
Coleman gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! McDermott gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!
