Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Howlett (ranked 716 p4p, 853 weight class) and Sammy Nyla (ranked 107 p4p, 127 weight class). Howlett's entrance music is Indestructible. A fine choice. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Howlett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sammy Nyla!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nyla misses with a straight right.

Howlett takes the fight into the clinch.
Howlett looking for a takedown.
Howlett wants a takedown.
Howlett jumps guard but Nyla stands there with Howlett around his waist. Howlett gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Howlett seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Howlett moves into range and clinches up with Nyla.
Howlett has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Nyla avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Nyla.
Nyla fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Nyla throws a punch but it's blocked by Howlett.
Nyla is working Howlett over against the cage.

Howlett jumps guard and drags Nyla to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Howlett looking for a sweep. Not yet Howlett, not yet.
Nyla really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Howlett. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Howlett is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Nyla's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Howlett isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Nyla stacks Howlett on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Nyla!
Howlett tries to bench press Nyla off him but Nyla keeps the position.
Howlett prevents Nyla from moving into mount.
Howlett is not content to let Nyla control the position.
Howlett wants to control but Nyla postures up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Howlett is trying to improve his position.
Howlett looks to move to half guard but instead Nyla has passed into mount! Damn!
Howlett is in all sorts of trouble here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nyla takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Howlett can't escape the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sammy Nyla will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Nyla loads up on a big right hand but Howlett slips the punch.

Howlett is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Nyla has managed to free his arm - good work.
Howlett wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nyla keeps working.

Howlett wants to free his trapped foot but Nyla is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Howlett is looking to take a break and control but Nyla is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Howlett wants to work for an arm triangle but Nyla is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Howlett in particular looking to stall.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nyla is doing well to control the position and prevent Howlett from advancing to side control.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Howlett doesn't manage to clinch there - Nyla circles away.
Nyla throws a hook but Howlett blocks it.
Howlett drops down looking for a counter takedown but Nyla sprawls and moves away.
Nyla throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Howlett sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Howlett shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
James Howlett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Howlett shoots in looking for a takedown. Nyla tries to sprawl out of it but Howlett keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nyla manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Nyla tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Howlett jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle. Ooooh, that looks tight Nyla is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Nyla and Howlett has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Howlett goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Nyla rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Howlett's guard! Nice work there by Nyla!

Howlett is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nyla pulls his head out easily.

I think Nyla has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
