Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hugo Loris (ranked 37 p4p, 70 weight class) and Jubei Akechi (ranked 8 p4p, 12 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hugo Loris! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 23 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jubei Akechi! The judges for this bout are James Glass, William Gold and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Akechi feints and as Loris raises his hands in defense, Akechi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Loris had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Akechi defends it easily. We've been hearing good reports from Loris's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Loris wants to get back to his feet but Akechi is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Akechi connects with a couple of short punches. Akechi throws a big elbow that misses. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Akechi working his ground and pound in the gym. Loris had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Akechi defends it easily. Akechi lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Akechi postures up in Loris's guard and throws a big left but Loris blocks it. Akechi stops Loris from standing up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Akechi trying to control but Loris is working from the bottom. Loris might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Akechi is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Akechi throwing strikes from guard but Loris blocks nicely. Akechi stays in close to Loris's body and controls the position. Loris working for a triangle but Akechi defends it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Loris has his feet on Akechi's thighs here. He's pushed Akechi off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Akechi screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Hugo Loris! Hugo Loris retains his lightweight title! In his post fight interview, Hugo Loris started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
