Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darsin Bleak (ranked 76 p4p, 281 weight class) and Sunshine Okafor (ranked 10 p4p, 38 weight class). Bleak comes to the cage accompanied by Enter Sandman. Okafor has chosen Bliss as his entrance music. Sunshine Okafor has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 18 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darsin Bleak! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sunshine Okafor! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Radbod Blank and Paul Aken.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Bleak. Okafor throws a poor cross that misses
and Bleak counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Bleak fails with the takedown. Bleak takes a shot right to the bread basket. Okafor throws a leg kick but Bleak sees it coming and moves out of range. Bleak tries to counter with a takedown but Okafor is quick to defend against it. Bleak drops his hands momentarily and Okafor takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Okafor gets a clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Okafor struggles to land a body shot inside as Bleak controls his hands.
Bleak is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Okafor can't fight it off and eventually Bleak manages to take the fight to the floor. Okafor looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Bleak trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Bleak's corner. There ya go! There ya go! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Okafor tries to land a sweep but no joy. Okafor is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Okafor is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bleak defends well. Bleak working some strikes from top position. Bleak throwing strikes from guard but Okafor blocks nicely. Okafor is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Okafor looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bleak is one step ahead there. Bleak working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Okafor's head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Okafor keeping moving, preventing Bleak from controlling successfully. Bleak has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Bleak passes into half guard. Okafor is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Bleak scores with a couple of nice shots. Okafor on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Okafor makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Okafor. Bleak cracks Okafor with a solid left hand. Okafor keeping moving, preventing Bleak from controlling successfully. Okafor is trying to keep Bleak in close.
Bleak slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bleak scoring with punches and elbows. Okafor is not content to let Bleak control the position. Bleak tries for a kimura but Okafor is defending well. Bleak tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Bleak lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Okafor down.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Okafor is trying to improve his position. Bleak scores with punches from side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Okafor is trying to get back to half guard. We've been hearing that Bleak has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Bleak working the head with strikes. Okafor takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Bleak looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Bleak wants to control but Okafor is keeping him busy. Bleak swings around for an armbar but Okafor sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bleak's guard. Bleak is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bleak is looking for a triangle here but Okafor uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Darsin Bleak dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Good standup being displayed there by Okafor as he connects with a hook. Bleak looks to throw the jab but Okafor is out of range. Okafor scores with a jab. Bleak shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Okafor counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Okafor lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Horrible takedown attempt by Bleak or perhaps it was just good defense by Okafor, which made it look bad. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The fighters circling - Bleak throws out the jab but it was never going to land. A swing and a miss from Bleak. Okafor throws a leg kick which misses Bleak's front leg but catches the back leg as Bleak tries to avoid it. Sunshine Okafor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Okafor stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Okafor has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Okafor fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Sunshine Okafor is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Okafor swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Bleak. Okafor tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bleak was well out of range. Poor timing from Okafor. Bleak takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Okafor misses with a wild body shot. A counter left hand to the body from Bleak misses its target. Okafor looks to land a right hand but Bleak moved out of range. Bleak shoots in for a takedown but Okafor shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darsin Bleak. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bleak avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Sunshine Okafor seems to be getting the better of the standup. Okafor misses with a straight left. Bleak chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Okafor can pounce on him.
Nice defenses there by Bleak. Bleak throws a hook to the side of Okafor's head but Okafor sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Okafor tries to counter with a clinch but Bleak shakes him off and moves away. Bleak ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Okafor moves away. Okafor swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bleak misses with a straight left. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Okafor, as that shot connected.
Okafor is looking to clinch. Okafor connects with a body shot. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nice straight punches there by Okafor. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Okafor. Okafor uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bleak. Bleak fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Okafor moves into range and connects with a jab. Okafor cracks a nice hook into Bleak's ribs. Okafor throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Bleak takes a shot right to the bread basket.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bleak misses with a left hand and Okafor counters with a left to the body. Bleak blocks a jab. Bleak attempts a counter takedown but Okafor avoids it well and moves away. Okafor jabs at Bleak's body. Okafor moves forwards but Bleak connects with a nice, crisp jab. Okafor misses with the body kick and Bleak counters with a single leg into guard. Okafor didn't expect that. Bleak lands a couple of elbows. Okafor keeping full guard, as Bleak tries to pass. Okafor manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bleak manages to get himself to full guard.
Bleak is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Okafor has his hands clasped together but Bleak extends and breaks Okafor's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Bleak.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Darsin Bleak! Darsin Bleak retains his lightweight title! After the fight, Darsin Bleak was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
