PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stevo Caruga (ranked 176 p4p, 888 weight class) and Jonny Bar (ranked 33 p4p, 121 weight class). Jonny Bar will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stevo Caruga!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Jonny Bar!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bar shoots in looking for a takedown. Caruga tries to sprawl out of it but Bar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Caruga manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Caruga shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bar manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Caruga drops back looking for a leg! Bar is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bar manages to kick Caruga off! Caruga jumps back into Bar's guard.

Bar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Caruga might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Caruga is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bar throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Bar is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Caruga has managed to free his arm - good work.
Caruga wants to improve his position but Bar is controlling well.

Bar is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Caruga can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Caruga is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Caruga tries to lock up and control but Bar gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Bar throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Caruga because Bar loaded up on that one.
Caruga is wriggling around trying to escape.
Bar postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Caruga looks a forlorn figure.
Caruga wants to hold on but Bar pushes him away.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Caruga working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Bar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bar is defended easily by Caruga.
Bar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Caruga but Caruga pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Stevo Caruga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonny Bar.

Caruga tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Caruga has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
