PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dan Koloa (ranked 3034 p4p, 2812 weight class) and Jan Zajac (ranked 403 p4p, 378 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Koloa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jan Zajac!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Daniel Bishop and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koloa shoots in looking for a takedown. Zajac tries to sprawl out of it but Koloa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Zajac manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Zajac swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Koloa is defended easily by Zajac.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Koloa gets the takedown into side control.
Zajac has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Koloa lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Zajac down.
Zajac is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Koloa off and has taken his back!
Koloa manages to reverse the position and now he's in Zajac's guard. Nice work there by Koloa.

Koloa lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Zajac working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Koloa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Koloa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Koloa postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
We've been hearing that Koloa has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Zajac is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Koloa defends well.
Zajac throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Zajac had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Koloa defends it easily.
Koloa keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Zajac's head.

Koloa with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Zajac has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Koloa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Koloa will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Koloa controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Zajac is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Koloa is aware though and is defending well.
Koloa has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Zajac escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Koloa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Koloa dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Koloa shoots in and drives through. Zajac sprawls well.
Koloa misses with a takedown attempt - Zajac sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Zajac changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Koloa moves into the clinch.

Koloa manages to pull guard.

Koloa is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Zajac can do to turn this around?

Zajac is looking for a sweep. Koloa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Koloa pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Koloa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Zajac is looking to escape.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
