Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joseph Mawma! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jeno Christ! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Eddie Farnsworth and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Christ misses with a lunging right hand
and Mawma counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Mawma waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Christ. Mawma fails with the takedown letting Christ counter with a right hand.
It looks like Joseph Mawma has been cut. Christ throws a jab when Mawma was well out of range. Mawma keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Christ. Christ blocks a leg kick. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mawma doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Mawma swings widly with a right hand
and Christ counters with a nice uppercut. Christ throws a right hand that misses
and Mawma counters with a nice double leg into side control. Christ won't be happy with that.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mawma wants to control but Christ is keeping him busy. Christ felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Christ is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mawma tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Christ tries to escape but Mawma is in control. Check out the look on Mawma's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Mawma trying to control the position but Christ is working away. Christ is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mawma asserts his dominance and retains side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Mawma has hold of Christ's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Christ tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Mawma cranks the arm and Christ screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Christ, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Joseph Mawma! A victorious Joseph Mawma thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
