PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Davido Monto (ranked 1990 p4p, 1558 weight class) and Donnie Larkin (ranked 281 p4p, 225 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 18 - 1, fighting out of London, Davido Monto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Donnie Larkin!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Larkin takes the fight into the clinch.

Monto drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Monto jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Larkin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Monto can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Larkin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Monto doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Monto manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Monto accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Larkin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Monto has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Larkin has managed to get both his arms back between Monto's legs - danger averted.

Monto takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Monto shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Larkin but Larkin pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Monto is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Larkin is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Larkin has escaped and now he's on top!

Larkin is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Monto to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Monto shrugs it off.

Donnie Larkin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Monto turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Monto manages to end up in side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Larkin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Monto with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Donnie Larkin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Larkin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
