PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Professor Xe (ranked 1418 p4p, 1640 weight class) and Chew Kok (ranked 65 p4p, 45 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Professor Xe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chew Kok!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kok thuds a left hand into Xe's body.
Kok swings for the body but Xe moves out of range.
Xe shoots in for a double leg but Kok sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Kok tries a quick counter leg kick but Xe is wise to it.
Xe looks to score with a jab to the body but Kok is just out of range.
Kok pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Xe drops down looking for a counter takedown but Kok sprawls and moves away.
Xe misses with a body shot
and Kok counters with a good low kick that Xe was not able to check.
Kok throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kok has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Xe ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kok moves away.
Kok connects with a high kick.

It looks like Professor Xe has been cut.
Kok tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kok jabs at Xe's body.
Xe takes a swing at Kok's ribcage but misses.
Kok keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kok bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Xe's head backwards.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kok uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Xe.
A nice side step and Kok releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Xe throws a one two combo.
Kok looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Kok walks into a stiff left hand from Xe.
Xe ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kok jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Xe shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Xe tries to pass to full mount but Kok defends it.
Kok tries to roll over but Xe keeps him under control.
Kok keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Xe prevents Kok from improving his position.
Xe takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Still in half guard, Xe seems content to control.
Xe lands with a punch from half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Xe connects with a nice short shot to Kok's temple.
Xe thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Xe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kok does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Xe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That kick from Kok tenderised Xe's leg. Xe is trying to keep his angry face on.
A big left from Kok misses.
Xe looks to throw the jab but Kok is out of range.
Kok keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Xe shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Xe was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Xe throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Xe lands strikes from half guard.
Xe takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Xe looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kok with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Xe is trying to control the action in half guard but Kok is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Kok has one foot on Xe's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Xe tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kok was well out of range. Poor timing from Xe.
Xe scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kok doesn't seem bothered though.

We've been hearing good reports from Xe's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Xe ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kok moves away.

and Xe takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kok only half commits to the counter leg kick.

Xe tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kok sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Xe somewhat.

Xe shoots for a takedown but Kok saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Professor Xe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Xe, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
