PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Hughes (ranked 1933 p4p, 2244 weight class) and Chris Coryatt (ranked 259 p4p, 304 weight class). Coryatt has chosen Slim Thug - Welcome 2 Houston as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Coryatt!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coryatt swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
An attempted straight right counter from Hughes misses the target.
Hughes lands with a hook. Coryatt tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Coryatt connects with a leg kick.
Hughes fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Coryatt looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Hughes fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Coryatt manages to avoid it.
A punch lands to the side of Coryatt 's head but he takes it in his stride.
A big right from Coryatt misses.
Hughes misses the shot to the body.
Coryatt is looking for the big counter here.

Hughes is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Coryatt's half guard.

Coryatt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hughes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hughes takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Chris Coryatt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hughes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Coryatt's coach down at Blacksmith MMA Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Coryatt's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Hughes takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

A jab from Hughes finds it's way through Coryatt's defenses.
Hughes lands a really nice looking cross but Coryatt seems unphased.

and Hughes connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hughes, as that shot connected.

Hughes shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Coryatt's guard.
Hughes throws a strike but Coryatt rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Coryatt throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hughes sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Hughes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Coryatt pinned against the cage. Coryatt gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
