Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aatreya Mahrishi (ranked 1075 p4p, 1386 weight class) and Kento Kawamata (ranked 164 p4p, 211 weight class). Mahrishi's entrance music is On the Precipe of Defeat. A fine choice. Aatreya Mahrishi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kawamata moves out of range of the strikes.
Mahrishi avoids the head kick by Kawamata.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Kawamata ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kawamata tried to score with a low kick but Mahrishi checks it.
Mahrishi swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Kawamata avoids a punch combination nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mahrishi throws a head kick but Kawamata moves out of range.
Mahrishi throws a head kick that half lands.

Kawamata follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

Kawamata shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Kawamata fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mahrishi.

Mahrishi tries to throw a body punch but Kawamata avoids it by throwing Mahrishi back against the cage.

Mahrishi throws a head punch that misses.
Mahrishi lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Mahrishi tries a body shot but Kawamata blocks it.

Mahrishi escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Kawamata has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Mahrishi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kawamata is trying to counter with his kicks.
We've been hearing reports that Mahrishi has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

and Kawamata makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Mahrishi really felt that one!
Mahrishi throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kawamata sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kawamata throws a solid leg kick but Mahrishi takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Kawamata.

and Kawamata counters with a head kick that drops Mahrishi to the mat! Mahrishi scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Kawamata cracks a nice hook into Mahrishi's ribs.
Oh Mahrishi is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mahrishi is breathing heavily.
Mahrishi throws a nice outside leg kick.
Kawamata lands a nice shot to the body.
Mahrishi seems to have got his legs back now.
Kawamata digs a good body shot into Mahrishi's ribs.

That's time! Mahrishi's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kawamata darts in and clinches Mahrishi up against the cage.

Kawamata lands a right hand that snaps the head of Mahrishi backwards.

Kawamata tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Mahrishi's elbow.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Mahrishi creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Kawamata has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kawamata looks to land a left hand but Mahrishi moved out of range nicely.

It looked like Mahrishi wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Kawamata is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Mahrishi rather than just go for the knockout.

Kawamata bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Mahrishi's head.
Mahrishi lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kento Kawamata showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Kawamata is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Mahrishi rolls with it to try and escape but Kawamata cranks on the arm and Mahrishi is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
