PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Riley Reaper (ranked 5369 p4p, 4109 weight class) and Tezzy Luke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Riley Reaper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tezzy Luke!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reaper lands with a nice body punch.
Reaper dives in for a single leg takedown but Luke sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Reaper can't get the takedown.

Luke pulls guard.
Luke looking for a sweep. Not yet Luke, not yet.
Luke is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Reaper passes Luke's left leg - he's now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Luke desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Reaper is looking to take a break and control but Luke is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Reaper throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Reaper stops Luke from getting back to his feet.
Luke works his way to full guard. Good work.
Reaper engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Luke wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Reaper is now in half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Reaper tries to pass to full mount but Luke defends it.
Reaper sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Luke defending well though.
Reaper uses his free foot to push down on Luke's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Luke.
BOOM! Reaper connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Luke avoids a series of strikes thrown by Reaper.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reaper thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Reaper controlling the position easily from mount.
Luke holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Reaper tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Reaper looking to control but Luke is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Reaper looking to ground and pound but Luke is blocking nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Reaper misses with a head shot.
Reaper has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Reaper takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Luke is in all sorts of trouble here.

Reaper wants to finish this one by submission but Luke is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Reaper.

Reaper jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Luke manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Reaper wants to lay and pray for a moment but Luke keeps working.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Riley Reaper dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Reaper goes for a double leg but Luke avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Luke continues to drive forward.
Reaper gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Luke.
Luke tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Reaper smiles and moves away.

Reaper instigates a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Luke gets underhooks to prevent Reaper's takedown attempt.
Reaper has Luke pushed against the cage.
Luke has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Reaper avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Riley Reaper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tezzy Luke.

Come on Luke - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Luke misses with some punches.
Reaper tries to score a body lock takedown but Luke shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Luke jumps guard but Reaper stands there with Luke around his waist. Luke gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Reaper manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Reaper lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Reaper throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Luke works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Reaper won't allow Luke to sweep him here.

Luke is working an open guard so Reaper takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Reaper looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Luke tries to close the distance and clinch but Reaper swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Reaper tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Luke keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Reaper.

Reaper clinches up with Luke and pushes him back against the cage.
Luke avoiding damage as Reaper throws knees to the body.

Reaper breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Luke.

Reaper darts in and clinches Luke up against the cage.

Reaper breaks from the clinch.
Reaper fails to land the takedown.

Reaper shoots in looking for a takedown but Luke manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Reaper's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Luke tries to close the distance and clinch but Reaper swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Reaper tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Luke swivels and escapes.

Despite the aggression on Luke's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Reaper tries to close the distance and clinch up but Luke swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Horrible takedown attempt by Reaper or perhaps it was just good defense by Luke, which made it look bad.
Reaper throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Luke's waist but Luke gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Reaper off to one side.
Reaper tries to clinch up but Luke circles away and keeps his distance.
And Luke tries to counter it with a takedown but Reaper pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Luke shoots in but no luck this time.
Luke moves in looking to clinch but Reaper pushes him off.
Reaper is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Luke can do to turn this around?

A slapping leg kick lands for Reaper.

and Reaper holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Reaper tries to pull guard but Luke holds him up against the cage and eventually Reaper drops back down to his feet.

Reaper pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Luke pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Reaper will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Reaper has taken the fight to the clinch.
Reaper controlling the action here for a moment.
Reaper wants to break free but Luke has control.
Reaper is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Luke pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Reaper's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Luke connects with a looping right hand.
Luke lands a head kick. Reaper smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Reaper shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Luke but Luke pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Reaper avoids the head kick by Luke.
Luke keeps the fight on the outside.
Luke tries to clinch up but Reaper circles away and keeps his distance.
Luke scores with the left hand. Reaper knows he should have avoided that one.

Luke is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Reaper is defending well.
Luke swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Luke tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Reaper manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Tezzy Luke has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Reaper avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

I would just about give that final round to Tezzy Luke.
