Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Riley Reaper (ranked 3509 p4p, 3873 weight class) and Jason Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Riley Reaper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Smith!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Reaper.
Smith drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Reaper defends it well.
Smith throws a one two combo.

It looks like Riley Reaper has been cut.
Reaper has a takedown stuffed.
Riley Reaper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Reaper defends well and Smith ends up having to push Reaper into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Reaper lands a big head kick that sends Smith tumbling to the mat! Reaper takes a step backwards and waves Smith back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Smith is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nice sprawl there from Reaper as Smith shoots in.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Smith.
Riley Reaper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Smith.
Reaper looks to clinch
and Reaper takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Reaper takes the fight into the clinch.

Smith is pressed up against the cage. Reaper has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Smith down to the mat. Smith avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Reaper shoots in for a double leg but Smith sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Smith moves into range and clinches up with Reaper.

Smith jumps into guard, dragging Reaper to the mat.

Reaper got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Reaper has managed to get both his arms back between Smith's legs - danger averted.
Reaper trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Smith manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Reaper gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Reaper is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Smith is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Smith has escaped and now he's on top!

Reaper is looking for a triangle here but Smith uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Reaper managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Smith.
Reaper sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Smith seems to be looking for submissions.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reaper keeps working.
Smith might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Reaper haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Reaper is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Reaper wants to stand back up but Smith manages to pass into side control.

You can see the frustration on Reaper's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jason Smith will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Riley Reaper's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Reaper tries to keep at a distance but Smith has taken the fight into the clinch.
Reaper tries to land knees in the clinch but Smith avoids the damage to the body.

Smith pulls Reaper into guard.
Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Reaper is controlling him.
Reaper trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reaper is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Reaper throwing strikes from guard but Smith blocks nicely.

Reaper drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smith looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smith looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smith!


Smith decides to stand back up.

Reaper closes the distance and pushes Smith back into the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Smith.
Smith has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Reaper avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Reaper's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith misses with a few strikes there.

Smith has managed to clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Reaper takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Reaper tries to score a body lock takedown but Smith shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Smith has picked Reaper up - he's going for a ride! Smith dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith wants to pass the guard but Reaper is defending well.
Reaper wants to control but Smith is keeping busy.
Reaper wants to get back to his feet.
Smith takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Smith throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Reaper is looking to escape.
Smith throws a strike but Reaper avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Smith sitting in guard here, content to control.

Smith decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Smith is looking to clinch but Reaper is avoiding it.
Riley Reaper is winning the standup battle so far.
Smith leaves Reaper with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Smith is looking for the big counter here.
A nice combination there by Smith.

Reaper shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Smith defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Riley Reaper. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Reaper moves into the clinch.
Smith has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Reaper is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Smith jumps guard but Reaper turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Smith is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Reaper pulls him back up using the underhooks.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Reaper as he avoids it easily.
Smith dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Reaper stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Reaper wants it to stay on the feet.
Smith dives in and grabs Reaper's left leg, looking for a takedown. Reaper pushes down on Smith's head and hops out.
Riley Reaper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Smith.

Reaper tries to clinch there but Smith circles away.

Horrible takedown attempt by Reaper or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith, which made it look bad.
Reaper stuffs the takedown.
Reaper throws a head kick that misses.
Reaper takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Reaper buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Reaper has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Reaper there as he acknowledges the shot.
Smith tries to clinch there but Reaper circles away.
Reaper seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reaper displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Smith.
Smith dives in and grabs Reaper's left leg, looking for a takedown. Reaper pushes down on Smith's head and hops out.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Reaper changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Reaper lands a high kick!

Reaper has closed the distance and engaged Smith in a clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Reaper tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Smith's elbow.
Smith jumps guard but Reaper turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Riley Reaper has scored more points in the clinch so far.
Reaper lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Smith.
Reaper tries for a takedown. No joy.
Reaper tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Smith avoids it.

Smith lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Reaper tries to land knees in the clinch but Smith avoids the damage to the body.
Come on Smith - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Smith fails to pull guard.
Smith's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Reaper stops a takedown attempt from Smith.
Reaper jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smith walks away with a smile on his face. Reaper gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Reaper fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A little jabbing left from Smith on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Smith shoots in looking for a takedown but Reaper manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smith's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Reaper has Smith up against the cage in a clinch.

Reaper pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Reaper displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Smith.
Reaper shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Smith counters with a one-two to the body.
Reaper looks for the body kick but Smith saw that one coming.
Reaper gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Reaper takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Riley Reaper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jason Smith is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Smith closes the distance and pushes Reaper back into the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Riley Reaper showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Smith has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
