PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jake Wood (ranked 2002 p4p, 2935 weight class) and Nimjal Configuracion (ranked 112 p4p, 164 weight class). Wood comes to the cage accompanied by Many Men - 50 Cent. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Wood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nimjal Configuracion!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood misses the jab.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Wood.

Configuracion closes the distance and pushes Wood back into the cage.

Wood has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Configuracion regains guard immediately.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wood is really struggling to control Configuracion but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Configuracion seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Configuracion is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wood accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Wood is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Wood might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Configuracion tries to clinch up but Wood circles away and keeps his distance.

No luck for Wood with that takedown attempt.
Wood shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Configuracion defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Wood. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Configuracion stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Configuracion wants it to stay on the feet.
Wood shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Configuracion sprawls well. Configuracion wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Wood gets slowly back to his feet.

Configuracion forces Wood back against the cage and clinches.

Wood fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Configuracion misses with an elbow over the top.

Wood blocks an elbow strike.
With the fighters up against the cage, Configuracion throws an elbow but misses.

Wood is working for takedown but Configuracion is calmly controlling the position for now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wood tries to pull guard but Configuracion forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Configuracion pushes off an throws an elbow but Wood leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Configuracion creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Configuracion misses with an elbow over the top.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nimjal Configuracion will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Configuracion tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wood swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Configuracion clinches up against the cage.
Configuracion looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Configuracion throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Wood avoids the elbow strike from Configuracion, against the cage.

Wood gets control of Configuracion's arms and successfully pulls guard. Wood will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Wood looking for a triangle here. Configuracion is fighting it but it looks tight! Wood pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Configuracion is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Jake Wood!
After the fight, Jake Wood was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
