Payton has chosen Andre Nickatina - Yeah as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Walter Payton has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payton throws a lazy uppercut
and Takala counters with a stiff right hand.
Takala stalks Payton and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Payton's face. Payton staggers backwards, shaken.

It looks like Walter Payton has been cut.
A slapping leg kick lands for Takala.
Payton jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Good exchange - Takala coming out on top.
Payton throws an overhand right that lands on Takala's shoulder, as Takala tries to avoid the shot.
Danga de danga de dang - Takala scores with a four punch combination!
Payton fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nice defenses there by Takala.

and Takala counters with a beautiful punch that sends Payton to the canvas!

Payton pulls Takala in close to prevent any damage.
Payton is still in real trouble! Can Takala finish him?

Payton seems to have recovered his senses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Payton looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Payton has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Takala takes the fight into the clinch.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Payton tries a body shot but Takala blocks it.
Takala wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Payton keeps control of Takala as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Takala throws a punch but it's blocked by Payton.
Takala lands with a short shot to the head.
I was talking to Takala's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Takala is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Payton.

Takala tries to bum rush Payton with a series of wild strikes but Payton uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Takala backs away from a small jab... but Payton lunges forward with a huge superman punch! Takala crumples to the ground as his mouth piece is sent flying! Payton with a spectacular finish!

A very excited looking Walter Payton rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
