Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Barkley (ranked 3791 p4p, 3498 weight class) and Stu Redman (ranked 431 p4p, 414 weight class). Redman has chosen Smke a Little Smoke - Eric Church as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stu Redman!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Bruno Lombardi and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Redman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Barkley avoids it really well and circles away.
Barkley is looking to counter punch.
A looping hook to the body misses from Redman. Barkley does a little dance to reset his feet.
Redman misses with an uppercut
and Barkley counters with a nice leg kick.
Redman throws a right hand that misses
and Barkley cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Redman lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Barkley circles away quickly and effectively.
Redman misses with a right hand
and Barkley counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Redman swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Redman rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Barkley counters with a nice leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Redman darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Barkley looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barkley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Redman on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barkley is trying to stand.
Barkley is positioning himself well to prevent Redman advancing to mount.

Redman decides to return to a standing position.
Redman throws a lazy uppercut
and Barkley counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Redman scores with a body shot.
Redman displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Barkley throws out the jab.
Redman swings widly with a right hand
and Barkley counters with a straight right hand.
Redman lands a body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Redman throws a shot from downtown. Barkley moves away and avoids it.
A counter left hand to the body from Barkley misses its target.
Redman on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

and Barkley cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

A big left from Redman misses.
A little feinted left hand from Barkley on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
We've been told by Barkley's head coaches at Primal Concrete Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Redman throws a looping overhand right but Barkley ducks down to avoid it.
Redman throws a right and a left that both miss.
Barkley half committed to a counter leg kick.
Redman swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Barkley counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Redman throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Redman throws a body punch but Barkley moves out of range.
Redman connects with a looping right hand.
Derrick Barkley is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Redman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
It looked like Barkley was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Redman.
Barkley lands a nice shot to the body.
Redman shoots in for a double leg but Barkley sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Redman throws a poor cross that misses
and Barkley counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Barkley cracks Redman with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Redman misses with a body shot.
Barkley uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Redman.
Barkley fires out a quick counter leg kick but Redman just manages to avoid it.
Redman misses with a hook

and Barkley counters with a crisp right hand that drops Redman! Barkley lets Redman back up to his feet, looking for a finish!

Redman is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Barkley closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Redman! Barkley dives in looking to finish! Redman is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Derrick Barkley!
