Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cormac McCarthy (ranked 588 p4p, 586 weight class) and Michal Materlak (ranked 77 p4p, 76 weight class). Materlak comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Marzenia kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cormac McCarthy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Michal Materlak!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Roberts and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Materlak drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

We've been hearing reports that McCarthy has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Materlak is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. McCarthy knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften McCarthy for a finish.

McCarthy is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Materlak gets his way!

I really don't envy McCarthy right now.
McCarthy is having to fend off submission attempts from Materlak, who is looking to sink in the choke. Materlak doesn't have the hooks in though and McCarthy manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

McCarthy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Materlak with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Cormac McCarthy.
I think Materlak has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
