PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Benji Torres (ranked 736 p4p, 816 weight class) and Harris Mint (ranked 100 p4p, 109 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Harris Mint was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Benji Torres!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harris Mint!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mint closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Torres's guard.
Torres has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Mint engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mint's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Torres looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Mint slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Torres is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Torres has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Torres gets caught napping as Mint dives in and scores a takedown. Torres manages to retain guard.
Mint postures up.
Mint preventing the sweep.
Mint looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
More stalling from Mint.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Torres gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mint to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Torres looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Harris Mint dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Torres jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Mint wants to counter the offense by Torres and move into the clinch position.
Torres connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Mint momentarily.

It looks like Harris Mint has been cut.

Mint throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Torres tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mint is in Torres's guard.
Mint is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mint is continuing to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mint stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Torres swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Torres is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Torres is working hard here to advance position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mint fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Mint shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Torres is trying to defend but Mint finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mint in particular looking to stall.
Harris Mint is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Torres is trying to control but Mint manages to pass to mount!
Torres is trying to escape the mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mint avoids the attempt from Torres to control.
Torres holds on to Mint as tight as he can, avoiding damage.
Torres wants to control but Mint is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Torres tries to control the position but Mint now has his back.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Harris Mint showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Harris Mint's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Mint darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Torres trying to get back to full guard but Mint takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Harris Mint has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mint controlling the position easily from mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Benji Torres has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Torres tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Torres holds on for dear life.
Torres is working to get back to half guard.
Mint controlling from mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Torres tries to lock up and control but Mint gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Mint controlling the pace for now.
Torres has given up his back. Will we see Mint going for some submissions?
Mint controls the action.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mint with more of the same as he continues to hold on.
Torres trying to control the action but Mint just sinks the hooks in.
Good control from Mint.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Torres is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Harris Mint comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Mint winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
