Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Svalbard Haudegen (ranked 1185 p4p, 1768 weight class) and Rebel Smith (ranked 172 p4p, 240 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Haudegen might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to For Heavy Metal we will die!. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Rebel Smith enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Svalbard Haudegen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 16 - 1, fighting out of New York, Rebel Smith!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Haudegen.
Rebel Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith throws a sloppy body shot
and Haudegen counters with a straight right hand.
Smith fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Haudegen manages to avoid it.
Haudegen looks for a takedown but Smith sprawls well.
Smith misses the shot to the body.
Smith looks to score with a jab to the body but Haudegen is just out of range.
Smith changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

We've been hearing reports that Haudegen has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Haudegen moves out of range of the strikes.
Smith jabs Haudegen to the body, keeping him at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith misses with a body punch
and Haudegen cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Haudegen ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
The fighters circling - Smith throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Smith misses with a hook

and Haudegen counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith is trying to stand back up but Haudegen is controlling him

Smith wants to improve his position but Haudegen is controlling well.
Smith is looking to control Haudegen's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Smith avoid being mounted?
Smith is controlling Haudegen's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Smith has a hand on Haudegen's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Haudegen takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Haudegen is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Smith can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Smith stops Haudegen from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Smith is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Smith told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Haudegen trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Smith tries to hold on but Haudegen postures up.

Haudegen has control of Smith's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Smith regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Haudegen has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Smith is forced to tap!

After winning the bout, Svalbard Haudegen thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
