Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Hughes (ranked 2067 p4p, 2976 weight class) and Zalt Gaanja (ranked 256 p4p, 366 weight class). Gaanja is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Nathan Evans - Wellerman. Zalt Gaanja has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 10 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcus Hughes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zalt Gaanja! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Reed Andrews and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gaanja misses with a wild body shot. Hughes rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Gaanja counters with a stiff right hand. Nice shot by Gaanja. Gaanja cracks a nice hook into Hughes's ribs. Gaanja looks to score with a jab to the body but Hughes is just out of range. Hughes looks to score with a jab to the body but Gaanja is just out of range. Zalt Gaanja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hughes misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gaanja.
Gaanja moves in looking to clinch but Hughes pushes him off. Gaanja misses with an uppercut. Gaanja closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hughes did well to prevent Gaanja getting side control. Hughes is trying to get back to full guard. Hughes looking for a kimura from the bottom but Gaanja passes into side control! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Gaanja tries to advance to mount but Hughes denies him. Hughes is trying to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hughes wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land. Hughes tries to buck Gaanja off but Gaanja is having none of it. Hughes takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Hughes stops Gaanja from passing to mount. Hughes manages to work his way to half guard, despite Gaanja's best efforts. Gaanja is nestled in close to Hughes, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Gaanja is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Gaanja scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Gaanja slips a nice elbow through Hughes's hands, connecting with Hughes's forehead. Gaanja working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hughes has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Gaanja escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Gaanja! Gaanja working the head and body with strikes.
Hughes is rocked! A big shot lands for Gaanja! That's hurt Hughes! Will he recover? Gaanja fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
