PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Richard Mesquita (ranked 305 p4p, 624 weight class) and Jair Brown (ranked 49 p4p, 94 weight class). Jair Brown told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jair Brown!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mesquita ducks under a wild hook from Brown.
Brown punishes Mesquita's body with a nice straight punch.
Brown throws out a loose jab but Mesquita uses good head movement to avoid it.
A swing and a miss from Brown.
Mesquita looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Mesquita will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Brown is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Mesquita.

Mesquita fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Brown to the ground. Mesquita is now in Brown's guard.

Mesquita shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mesquita was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Brown wants to get back to his feet.
Mesquita in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Brown really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mesquita. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Brown bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Mesquita jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Brown walks away with a smile on his face. Mesquita gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Mesquita throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brown was covering up waiting for the punch and Mesquita finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Brown is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Mesquita presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Brown might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Mesquita escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brown gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Brown feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Mesquita sprawling to the canvas! Mesquita rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Brown finish him?!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
