PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Xandao Couceiro (ranked 2486 p4p, 1504 weight class) and Jan Moder (ranked 270 p4p, 169 weight class). Couceiro comes into the arena with Welcome to my Nightmare- Alice Cooper blaring out of the sound system. Jan Moder has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moder leaves Couceiro with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Moder looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Couceiro ducks right into an uppercut from Moder.
Couceiro shoots for a takedown but Moder saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Couceiro closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Couceiro looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
You can see the frustration on Moder's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Couceiro in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Moder tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Couceiro presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Moder tries to hold on but Couceiro pushes him away.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Moder is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Couceiro takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Couceiro is working for a guillotine from mount but Moder frees his head quite easily.
Moder has given up his back.

Couceiro is persistently looking for the submission but Moder is defending it well.
