PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rasmus Karhu (ranked 1920 p4p, 1225 weight class) and Paul Hunter (ranked 281 p4p, 183 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rasmus Karhu!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karhu throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
A decent looking cross lands there for Karhu.

It looks like Paul Hunter has been cut.
Karhu takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Karhu throws a body shot but no joy.
Paul Hunter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hunter swings for the body but Karhu moves out of range.
Hunter thuds a left hand into Karhu's body.
Hunter throws the left hand but Karhu avoids the punch easily.
A little feinted left hand from Karhu on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
We've been told by Karhu's head coaches at Helsinki Private Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Karhu throws a big shot that misses.
Hunter connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Hunter missing with a left hand there. Karhu was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Karhu throws a jab when Hunter was well out of range.
Karhu moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Hunter has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Hunter misses with a hook. Karhu ducked under it nicely.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hunter lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Karhu at a distance.
Karhu fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Karhu avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

enabling Karhu to counter with a crisp jab.

That has opened up Paul Hunter's cut even more.
A punch lands to the side of Hunter 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Hunter looks to land a right hand but Karhu moved out of range.
Karhu was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Hunter scores with a jab to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Karhu fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hunter manages to avoid it.
Karhu changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hunter throws a looping overhand right but Karhu ducks down to avoid it.
Hunter slips under a jab from Karhu.
Karhu lands with a cross.

The cut above Paul Hunter's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Karhu scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Karhu getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Hunter fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Karhu manages to avoid it.
It looked like Karhu was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Hunter.

Hunter looks winded!

Hunter moves out of range of the strikes.
Hunter lands with a good body shot.
Karhu swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Karhu lands a nice shot to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Karhu tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hunter was well out of range. Poor timing from Karhu.

Karhu scores with the left hand. Hunter knows he should have avoided that one.

Paul Hunter's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Hunter slips a straight right by Karhu.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rasmus Karhu dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Paul Hunter's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Hunter will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Karhu throws a shot to the body.

Karhu cracks Hunter with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

and Karhu counters with a nice right hand that sends Hunter toppling to the canvas! Hunter scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Karhu finish him?!

Hunter is rocked!

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Paul Hunter's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Rasmus Karhu!
Rasmus Karhu is the new light heavyweight champion!
Rasmus Karhu thanked the fans post fight for their support.
