Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, William Wallace! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Slater! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wallace manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Slater on his heels. He'll look to pass Slater's guard now, I'm sure. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wallace wants to control from the top but Slater keeps moving. Slater has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Slater keeping full guard, as Wallace tries to pass. Slater is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wallace is looking to advance position but Slater has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Slater raining down shots from the mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Slater in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Slater is landing with some decent strikes but Wallace is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Wallace definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Slater with the ground and pound from mount. Slater looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Slater controlling the position easily from mount. Slater landing strikes, looking to finish! Slater with good strikes from the mount here! Wallace is wriggling around trying to escape.
Slater is in the full mount, landing strikes. Wallace takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Wallace is rocked! I've been told that Slater has been drilling his wrestling of late, which has already helped him take this fight to the mat. Let's see how much of an impact it has on the outcome of the ground game.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wallace takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Slater's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
