PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Katelynn Arby (ranked 2141 p4p, 2187 weight class) and Gabriel Havran (ranked 243 p4p, 248 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Arby might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Sweet But Psycho. Gabriel Havran told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Katelynn Arby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gabriel Havran!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arby avoids the body shot from Havran.

Arby bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Havran is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Arby asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Arby is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Havran knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Arby is trying to get an arm triangle but Havran is defending well.
Havran wants to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Havran bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Horrible takedown attempt by Arby or perhaps it was just good defense by Havran, which made it look bad.

and Arby counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Havran wants to stand and escape but Arby is having none of it.

Arby is looking to advance position but Havran has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Havran avoids the attempt from Arby to control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nice sprawl there from Havran as Arby shoots in.
Havran leaves Arby with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Arby tries to score a power double leg takedown but Havran sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Arby somewhat.

Arby changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Havran tries to avoid it but Arby manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Havran to the ground. Havran escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Havran is looking to stand up but Arby isn't so interested in that idea.
Havran is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Arby is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Arby wants to pass the guard but Havran is keeping the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Arby displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Havran throws out the jab.
Havran looks to land a left hand but Arby moved out of range nicely.
A decent looking cross lands there for Havran.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Havran, as that shot connected.

A head punch on the inside from Havran fails to land.
Arby is trying to pull guard but Havran turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Havran.
Havran lands with a left to the head.
Havran lands with a light punch inside.
Arby's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Havran just leaning against Arby, taking a breather.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Arby's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Arby shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Havran as he avoids it easily.
Havran leaves Arby with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Havran throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Havran enables Arby to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Havran manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Havran uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Arby shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Havran is trying to defend but Arby finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Havran decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Arby, up you get!

Havran jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Arby shoots in for a double leg but Havran sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Arby ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Havran has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Arby is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Arby's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Havran connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Arby scrambles back to his feet.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Well Havran has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
