PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eliott Leighton (ranked 3113 p4p, 3249 weight class) and Jamie James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Leighton might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 23 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eliott Leighton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jamie James!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Dmitry Maklakov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James slips under a jab.
James wants to counter the offense by Leighton and move into the clinch position.

James cracks Leighton with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. James has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Leighton to stand back up!
James lands with a kick to the ribs.

Leighton takes the fight into the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
James avoiding damage as Leighton throws knees to the body.

Leighton has dropped down and is working for a takedown. James is trying to keep an underhook but Leighton manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Leighton throwing shots but James is blocking nicely.
James keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Leighton tries to pass the half guard into mount. James knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
James is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Leighton controlling the action here.

Leighton escapes and gets back to his feet.
Leighton swings for the body but James moves out of range.

Leighton closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
James tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Leighton avoids it.
Leighton misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from James.
Leighton tries for a takedown but James manages to get underhooks.
Leighton's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Leighton slowing the pace effectively.

Leighton tries to land knees in the clinch but James avoids the damage to the body.
Good body shot from James.

Leighton pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
James uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Leighton.
James moves out of range of the strikes.
James has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
James thumps Leighton with a low kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Leighton. James does a little dance to reset his feet.
Leighton throws a head kick that misses.
Leighton throws a push kick but James slaps the foot to one side.
Leighton takes one to the chin there.
Leighton fakes high and swings low for a body shot but James manages to avoid it.
Nice uppercut there from James.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Leighton throws an off balance right hand
and James counters with a nice body shot.
Leighton misses with the combination.
Leighton lands an overhand right.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Leighton has James up against the cage in a clinch.
Leighton avoids the elbow strike from James, against the cage.
James tries to work over Leighton's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
James tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Leighton's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
James lands a right hand that snaps the head of Leighton backwards.

Leighton manages to pull guard.

Leighton is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
James slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've been hearing good reports from Leighton's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Leighton has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think James should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Leighton has tightened it up now! James should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
