Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Simon Hedegaard (ranked 1121 p4p, 2672 weight class) and Vern Schullacks (ranked 159 p4p, 334 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Vern Schullacks was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 26 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Simon Hedegaard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 18 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vern Schullacks! The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hedegaard displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Schullacks throws out the jab. Schullacks closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hedegaard's guard. Hedegaard is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Schullacks looking to pass the guard. Hedegaard is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Schullacks is aware though and is defending well. Hedegaard looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hedegaard is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hedegaard working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Schullacks doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Schullacks manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schullacks throws a big right hand that misses. Schullacks missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Hedegaard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Schullacks postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schullacks keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hedegaard's head. Hedegaard not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hedegaard seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Schullacks loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Schullacks scoring with punches to the head and body. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hedegaard has his foot on Schullacks's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Schullacks works his way back into a safe position though. Schullacks must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Schullacks throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Schullacks trying to control the position from guard on top but Hedegaard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Schullacks looking to pass the guard. Schullacks postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Schullacks content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Schullacks seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Hedegaard will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Schullacks accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Schullacks wants to control from the top but Hedegaard keeps moving.

You can't force these things though and Schullacks defends well. Schullacks works a leg free and moves into half guard. Schullacks not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Schullacks is nestled in close to Hedegaard, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Schullacks in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Hedegaard tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Schullacks!
