Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dick Niaz (ranked 381 p4p, 1371 weight class) and Ger McDonnell (ranked 57 p4p, 190 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dick Niaz!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Ger McDonnell!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDonnell throws out a leg kick but Niaz moves out of range and McDonnell only half commits.
McDonnell throws a quick inside leg kick.
McDonnell stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and McDonnell wants it to stay on the feet.
McDonnell fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
McDonnell throws a lazy right hand but Niaz sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
McDonnell waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Niaz.
Niaz tries to close the distance and clinch but McDonnell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
McDonnell looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Niaz looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
McDonnell ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Niaz moves away.
Niaz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
McDonnell defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Niaz.
McDonnell tries a quick counter leg kick but Niaz is wise to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McDonnell misses with a wild combination.
McDonnell takes a swing at Niaz's ribcage but misses.
Niaz tries to counter with a takedown but McDonnell is quick to defend against it.
McDonnell misses the shot to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A looping hook to the body misses from McDonnell. Niaz does a little dance to reset his feet.
McDonnell lands with a nice body punch.
McDonnell misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Niaz.
Niaz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McDonnell tries to avoid it but Niaz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McDonnell to the ground. McDonnell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dick Niaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McDonnell jabs Niaz right on the nose. Niaz blinks but takes it well.
Niaz on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Ger McDonnell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McDonnell looks to land a combination but Niaz avoids it well.
McDonnell throws a big shot that misses.
McDonnell lands a jab-cross combination.
McDonnell misses with a hook.
Niaz staying out of range there.
Niaz gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Niaz shoots for a double leg takedown but McDonnell sprawls well. He's pushed Niaz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McDonnell lands with a cross.
McDonnell swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Niaz feinted with a counter takedown.
McDonnell throws a leg kick

and Niaz counters with a nice double leg into side control. McDonnell won't be happy with that.
McDonnell keeps Niaz under control for a moment.
Niaz wants to lay and pray for a moment but McDonnell keeps working.
McDonnell is looking to reverse the position.

Niaz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McDonnell is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Niaz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Niaz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Niaz is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down McDonnell's shoulder. That is not cool.
McDonnell is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Niaz trying to control the position but McDonnell is working away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McDonnell wants to control but Niaz postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Niaz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McDonnell has escaped the position, nice work there.
Niaz wants to lay and pray for a moment but McDonnell keeps working.

Niaz in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... McDonnell is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Dick Niaz!
