PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Moody (ranked 25116 p4p, 25441 weight class) and Punch Bag (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bag has chosen Eye of the tiger as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dennis Moody!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Punch Bag!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moody throws a right and a left that both miss.
Bag throws a series of strikes that have Moody backpedaling.
Bag swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Moody.
Moody will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Moody throws a nice looking combination but Bag bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Moody shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bag is trying to defend but Moody finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bag is trying to stand back up but Moody is controlling him
Moody trying to pass the guard but Bag defending well.
Moody is looking to stall here but Bag recovers full guard.

Bag keeping moving, preventing Moody from controlling successfully.
Moody really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Bag keeping full guard, as Moody tries to pass.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Moody postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Moody dives in and grabs Bag's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bag pushes down on Moody's head and hops out.
Moody misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bag rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Moody moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Moody closes the distance and clinches.
Bag jumps guard but Moody stands there with Bag around his waist. Bag gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Moody pushes Bag back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Moody just leaning against Bag, taking a breather.

Bag pulls Moody into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Moody won't allow Bag to sweep him here.
Moody sitting in guard here, content to control.
Moody's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Bag keeping full guard, as Moody tries to pass.
Moody will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Bag can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Moody controls the pace.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bag not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bag has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Brotherhood MMA. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Bag tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Moody throws a series of punches but Bag avoids them all with ease.

Moody moves into the clinch successfully.
Bag missing with knees to the body.

Moody jumps into guard, dragging Bag to the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bag trying to control but Moody is working from the bottom.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dennis Moody will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Moody closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Bag wants to control but Moody is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moody thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Bag kicks Moody off and gets back to his feet.
Dennis Moody seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Moody throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Moody has managed to clinch.

Moody escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown attempt by Moody or perhaps it was just good defense by Bag, which made it look bad.
Bag throws a big counter head kick but Moody avoids it with no problem.

Moody shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Bag is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Moody pulls his head out easily.

Still in half guard, Moody seems content to control.

Moody decides to stand up.
Moody closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bag circles away.
A left and a right from Bag both land. Nice combination.

Moody shoots in and gets a takedown into Bag's guard.
Dennis Moody overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Moody wanted to stand there but Bag had control of the position.
Moody sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Moody works over Bag with some ground and pound from guard.
Bag keeping moving, preventing Moody from controlling successfully.
Bag being controlled here, momentarily.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Moody is defended easily by Bag.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dennis Moody. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Moody has managed to clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Moody throws an elbow but it's blocked.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dennis Moody will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Bag punishes Moody's body with a nice straight punch.
Moody wants to clinch up but Bag keeps it at a distance.

Bag trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bag trying to control the position from guard on top but Moody is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Moody manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Moody gets a clinch.
Bag prevents a takedown attempt there.

Moody lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Bag actively working from the bottom here.
Moody wants to control but Bag is keeping him busy.
Bag trying to hold on to Moody's head to control him but Moody postures up.
Bag manages to get to full guard.
Moody keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bag's head.

Moody trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Moody gets to his feet - Bag follows without any prompting.

Moody closes the distance and clinches.
Moody displaying some good clinch control by pressing Bag up against the cage.
Still in the clinch, Moody scores with a nice short uppercut.

Moody has picked Bag up - he's going for a ride! Moody dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Moody lands with a punch from half guard.
Moody seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Bag looks like he's trying to stand up.
Punch Bag has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dennis Moody is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bag is not content to let Moody control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dennis Moody showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Moody, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
