PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Luiz Mendoza (ranked 910 p4p, 997 weight class) and Marcus Shakes (ranked 72 p4p, 75 weight class). Shakes has chosen About the Money- T.I. as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 1, fighting out of London, Luiz Mendoza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcus Shakes!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Donald Grub and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendoza dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Shakes. That did some damage!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mendoza's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Mendoza keeps the fight on the outside.
Shakes bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Mendoza's head backwards.
Horrible takedown attempt by Mendoza or perhaps it was just good defense by Shakes, which made it look bad.

Shakes pushes Mendoza up against the cage in a clinch.
Mendoza jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Shakes walks away with a smile on his face. Mendoza gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Shakes lands with a straight right. Mendoza didn't see that one coming.

Shakes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mendoza, pushing him back against the cage.
Shakes gets through Mendoza's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mendoza lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
