PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Long Hung Dong (ranked 1303 p4p, 1536 weight class) and Jinjing Yan (ranked 178 p4p, 215 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Long Hung Dong has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Long Hung Dong seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Long Hung Dong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jinjing Yan!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Ben Hemmingworth and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut lands for Yan. That snapped Dong's head back.
Dong lands an overhand right.
A decent looking cross lands there for Dong.
Dong throws an off balance right hand
and Yan counters with a nice uppercut.
Dong takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Yan steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Dong.
Yan scores with a nice head shot.
Dong looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Yan jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Yan blocks a leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dong is looking to clinch.
Yan is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Dong with a body shot.
Dong wants to clinch up but Yan keeps it at a distance.
Dong tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Dong fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Dong delivers a nice body kick.
Yan throws a hook but Dong avoids it easily.
A chopping leg kick lands by Dong.
Yan throws a looping overhand right but Dong ducks down to avoid it.
Dong pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Yan back to the cage. Dong follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Yan takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
A shot to the liver by Yan. Beautiful body shot.
Yan throws a body punch but Dong moves out of range.
As Yan looks to move away, Dong throws a big counter combo but Yan just gets out of the way.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yan throws out a loose jab but Dong uses good head movement to avoid it.
Yan misses with a hook
and Dong counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Dong scores with a nice body kick.
Yan on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Dong looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Dong throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Dong fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Yan, pushing him back against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Yan.
Dong lands a left hand that snaps the head of Yan backwards.
Yan scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Dong pulls guard effortlessly.
Dong controlling Yan's posture.

Dong working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Yan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Yan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dong escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Yan wanted to stand there but Dong had control of the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dong is trying to keep Yan in close.
Yan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Yan is looking to stand up but Dong won't let him.

Dong looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dong is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yan trying to keep a closed guard but Dong is proving a slippery customer.

Yan is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Dong throws a big elbow that misses.
Yan preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Yan can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yan controls Dong momentarily but Dong frees himself.
Yan wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Yan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Long Hung Dong dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

A low kick lands for Dong.
Dong lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Dong thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Yan if he has to take too many more of those.
Dong throws a series of punches but Yan avoids them all with ease.
Dong scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Long Hung Dong is winning the standup battle so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yan takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Dong throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Yan to counter with a crisp jab.
Yan throws a body punch but Dong moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dong lands with a cross.
Dong throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A little jabbing left from Yan on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Dong tries to clinch up
and Yan counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Dong is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Yan can do to turn this around?
Dong throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Yan! But no joy.
Dong looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Yan throws an off balance right hand
and Dong cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Dong clinches with his opponent.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Dong.
Dong lands an uppercut.

Dong manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Yan wanted to stand there but Dong had control of the position.
Dong has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Dong is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Yan wants to stand but Dong is controlling his posture from full guard.
Yan wants to pass the guard but Dong is keeping the position.
Yan won't allow Dong to sweep him here.

Yan wants to stand and escape but instead Dong has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dong wants to control from the top but Yan keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Yan is on top in guard.

Yan decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dong, up you get!
Dong connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Yan momentarily.

Dong scores with a one two! Yan had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dong turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Yan keeps the fight on the outside.
Yan throws out a counter right but Dong avoids it with no problem.
Yan looks to throw the jab but Dong is out of range.
Dong was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Long Hung Dong dominated that second round.
That's time! Dong's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!

Yan doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Dong throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A jab lands there for Dong.
Dong scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
A telegraphed right hand from Yan misses the target.
A shot to the body from Yan misses
and Dong counters with a series of strikes. Yan will be more careful next time no doubt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dong wants to clinch
and Yan counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Yan wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Dong closes the distance and clinches.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Dong creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Yan has a couple of punches blocked by Dong.

Dong has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Yan uses from the top position.
Yan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dong. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Dong wants to take a breather but Yan is having none of it.
Yan blocking the ground and pound attempt from Dong.
Yan works his way to full guard. Good work.
Yan pulls Dong in to control the position.
Dong stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yan swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Dong wants to control from the top but Yan keeps moving.
Yan looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Dong puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Yan tries to roll over but Dong keeps him under control.
Dong takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Yan trying to control but Dong postures up.

Dong is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Yan is controlling Dong's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Dong is trying to work for a kimura but Yan is defending well.
Yan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Yan keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
Long Hung Dong showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Dong has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
