Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lubomir Sultsina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Sherk!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sultsina will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sherk drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Sultsina defends it well.
No joy there for Sultsina, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sultsina getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

It looks like Steve Sherk has been cut.
Sultsina moves to clinch but Sherk breaks away

and Sherk counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sultsina is trying to stand up here but Sherk is controlling him well.
My spies in The Jungle Room inform me that Sherk has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sherk is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sultsina wants to get back to his feet.
Sherk wants to take a breather but Sultsina is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sultsina pushes Sherk off looking to stand but Sherk dives back in and keeps control.
Sherk is looking to take a break and control but Sultsina is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sultsina looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Sherk circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sherk swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
The crowd cheers as Sultsina lands an impressive looking overhand right. Sherk doesn't seem phased though.

Sultsina lands a big head kick that sends Sherk tumbling to the mat! Sultsina takes a step backwards and waves Sherk back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Sherk is rocked!
No joy there for Sultsina, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sultsina falls off balance throwing a combination

and Sherk counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Well, if Sherk is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Sultsina is trying to stand up here but Sherk is controlling him well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sherk is taking a breather. Sultsina says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Sherk is working for a kimura but Sultsina is defending it quite comfortably.
Sherk is looking to advance position but Sultsina won't allow it.
Sultsina wants to get back to his feet.
Sherk is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sherk's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Sultsina trying to hold on to Sherk's head to control him but Sherk postures up.
Sultsina tries to kick Sherk off but Sherk keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Sherk is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sultsina defends it well.
Sherk moves nicely into side control.

Sherk is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sultsina has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sherk controlling the position.

Sherk has hold of Sultsina's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Sultsina tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Sherk cranks the arm and Sultsina screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Sultsina, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Steve Sherk!
