Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between André Levesque (ranked 1242 p4p, 2325 weight class) and Kristoffer Rud (ranked 151 p4p, 274 weight class). Rud has chosen Run Boy Run as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, André Levesque!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kristoffer Rud!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Jrvilinen, Anni Minnemki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Levesque throws a good cross that connects.
Levesque connects with a right hand. Rud shakes it off.

Rud throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Levesque was covering up waiting for the punch and Rud finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Rud is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Levesque is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Levesque has escaped and now he's on top!


Rud had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Levesque defends it easily.
Levesque sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Levesque's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Rud has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Levesque can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Levesque got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rud has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Levesque has managed to get both his arms back between Rud's legs - danger averted.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Further stalling from Levesque.

Rud working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Levesque doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Levesque manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Levesque tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rud knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Rud is staying active underneath Levesque, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Rud shoots in for a double leg but Levesque sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Levesque misses the shot to the body.
Rud looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Rud drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rud is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Levesque is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that André Levesque will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Levesque keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Rud has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rud.
Rud has his takedown stuffed
and Rud takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
André Levesque has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kristoffer Rud.

Rud shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Levesque manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rud is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Levesque is pressing down on Rud's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rud is holding on for now.

Rud is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Levesque pulls his head out easily.

Rud is pressing down on Levesque's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Rud throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Levesque escapes and throws Rud's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Rud keeps trying to improve his position.

Levesque is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rud manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Levesque looks to land a left hand but Rud moved out of range nicely.
Rud chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Levesque can pounce on him.
Rud keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Levesque misses with a low kick.

Rud looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Rud is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Levesque pulls Rud in close to his closed guard and prevents Rud from doing any damage or advancing position.
Levesque has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Levesque wants to hit a sweep here but Rud passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Levesque there!

Rud moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Levesque has worked his arm free - good work by Levesque!

Rud wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Levesque, who protects the arm well.
Rud advances to mount.
Levesque is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Rud looking to secure an arm triangle but Levesque defends it well.
Rud avoids the attempt from Levesque to control.
Levesque working to try and regain half guard.

Rud swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Levesque is now in Rud's guard. A big mistake from Rud there, giving up the dominant position!

Rud has his foot on Levesque's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Levesque works his way back into a safe position though.
Kristoffer Rud has got the better of the ground game so far.

Rud has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Levesque is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rud.

Levesque is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Levesque tries to roll over but Rud keeps him under control.

Rud is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Levesque is just riding it out for now. Rud eventually gives up the hold.

Rud is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Levesque with a body shot.
Rud takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Levesque lands a big uppercut and Rud crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Rud looks OK. Levesque waves Rud back to his feet!

Rud is rocked!

It looks like Kristoffer Rud has been cut.
Rud is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Both fighters step back and shake their arms out. Levesque engages and cracks Rud with a massive lead left hook - Rud tumbles to the floor, out cold! What a shot! Levesque is delighted - all that hard work in training paid off!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 4, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). André Levesque!
André Levesque retains his heavyweight title!
After winning the bout, André Levesque thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
