This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 2 losses; Akaro Horiguchi! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Hirohito Nitta and Yuuki Gou.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Horiguchi circles away from the clinch attempt.
Gawain wants to clinch up but Horiguchi keeps it at a distance. Gawain drives through and clinches with Horiguchi against the cage.
Gawain is trying to trip Horiguchi. He has hold of a leg but Horiguchi is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Gawain persists though and gets the takedown into guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gawain can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Horiguchi controls the pace. Gawain throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That's one minute gone in the round. Gawain wants to control but Horiguchi postures up. Horiguchi in side control, just content to control the action for now. Horiguchi is trying to get an arm triangle but Gawain is defending well. Horiguchi tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Gawain manages to get back to half guard.

Horiguchi with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Horiguchi prevents Gawain from improving his position. Horiguchi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gawain sees it coming and defends easily. Gawain looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Horiguchi pushes past his half guard into mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Gawain (2) vs (8) Horiguchi Gawain is trying desperately to improve position. Gawain is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Horiguchi has taken his back.

What can Gawain do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Horiguchi working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Gawain is doing well to defend. Horiguchi seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Gawain is forced to tap and this one is over!
