And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alexander Rusev!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Russell Pearce and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rusev lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Battuga circles away quickly and effectively.
Rusev drives through with a takedown into Battuga's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Rusev won't allow Battuga to sweep him here.
Rusev throws a big right hand that misses.
Battuga keeping full guard, as Rusev tries to pass.
Rusev throws an elbow that misses. Battuga uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rusev's guard. Nice move by Battuga!
Battuga knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rusev on the ground.
Battuga is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rusev thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Battuga forces his way into half guard.

Battuga is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Rusev is looking to control Battuga's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rusev avoid being mounted?
Rusev tries to roll over but Battuga keeps him under control.

Battuga content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Rusev felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Rusev is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Rusev moves forwards but Battuga connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Rusev takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

and Battuga counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Battuga makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Ardahan Battuga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Rusev.
Battuga comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Battuga closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Rusev! Battuga dives in looking to finish! Rusev is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
