PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wamberto Boaz (ranked 3725 p4p, 5281 weight class) and Brooke Marsden (ranked 431 p4p, 500 weight class). Boaz comes into the arena with Ai Se Eu Te Pego blaring out of the sound system. Marsden has chosen Lunatic Fringe as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 37 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wamberto Boaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brooke Marsden!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Lou da Vinci and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boaz waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Marsden.
Marsden throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Marsden lands a jab to the head.
Boaz lands with a nice combination. Marsden backs away looking to recover.
Boaz misses the shot to the body.
Marsden uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Marsden scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Marsden decides to stand up, so the ref orders Boaz to his feet.

Boaz manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Marsden on his heels. He'll look to pass Marsden's guard now, I'm sure.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Boaz moves into full mount!
Marsden holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Boaz tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Boaz cracks Marsden with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Marsden is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Boaz trying to control but Marsden is having none of it.
Marsden is desperately trying to improve his position but Boaz has a good base and remains in mount.
We've been hearing good reports from Boaz's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Boaz working some short elbows here. He postures up to throw some more ground and pound but Marsden slips a leg through to get back to half guard. Nice work.

Marsden lands a nice looking body shot.

Marsden throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Boaz was covering up waiting for the punch and Marsden finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Marsden stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Boaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Boaz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Marsden slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Marsden is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Marsden might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Boaz haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nice defenses there by Marsden.

Boaz closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Marsden did well to prevent Boaz getting side control.
Marsden is looking to get back to is feet but Boaz passes into side control.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Boaz slows the pace down.

Brooke Marsden showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

A slow jab from Marsden misses its intended target.
Marsden throws out a loose jab but Boaz uses good head movement to avoid it.
Marsden throws a lazy right hand but Boaz sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Marsden moves in looking to clinch but Boaz pushes him off.
Boaz on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Boaz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Marsden moves away.
Boaz misses the shot to the body.

Marsden gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Marsden wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Marsden's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Marsden lands with a short punch from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marsden blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Marsden.
Marsden scores with a hook to the body.
Marsden misses with a short punch on the inside.

Marsden's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Marsden moves out of range as Boaz strikes.

Marsden is looking to land body kicks.

Boaz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Marsden!

Marsden tries to bench press Boaz off him but Boaz keeps the position.

Marsden is staying active underneath Boaz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Marsden is looking for a sweep. Boaz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Boaz wants to control but Marsden is keeping him busy.
Marsden is pressing down on Boaz's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Boaz content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Marsden has locked up a guillotine! Marsden's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Boaz is holding on here and Marsden must be using up a lot of energy. Boaz has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Marsden gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Brooke Marsden!
Brooke Marsden really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Voodoo Nutrition logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
