PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jorlan Vieira (ranked 1461 p4p, 1646 weight class) and Roman Ship (ranked 78 p4p, 90 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jorlan Vieira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 27 - 1, fighting out of London, Roman Ship!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Vieira.
Ship cracks Vieira with a right hand to the side of the head.
Vieira throws a hook but Ship blocks it.
Ship lands a nice shot that snaps Vieira's head back.
Ship uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Vieira.
Vieira takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Vieira takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Ship lands a right hook to the body.
Ship missing with a left hand there. Vieira was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Vieira tries to move into range but Ship moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Ship scores with the left hand. Vieira knows he should have avoided that one.
Ship keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Vieira.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ship. Vieira does a little dance to reset his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ship thuds a left hand into Vieira's body.

Vieira moves out of range of the strikes.
Ship cracks Vieira with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Sloppy strikes from Vieira. Those never looked like landing.
Vieira drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Ship misses with a wild body shot.
Ship takes a swing at Vieira's ribcage but misses.
Ship displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Vieira throws out the jab.
Roman Ship seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ship changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Vieira misses with an uppercut.
Ship comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Ship takes a swing at Vieira's ribcage but misses.

Vieira gets tackled into the cage by Ship. Ship maintains the clinch.
Ship tries to pull guard but Vieira holds him up against the cage and eventually Ship drops back down to his feet.

Vieira doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Ship blocks an elbow strike from Vieira.
Ship blocking some punches.
Ship misses with a body punch.
Ship scores with an uppercut up the middle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ship ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ship no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Ship had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Vieira defends it easily.

Ship has his foot on Vieira's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vieira works his way back into a safe position though.

Ship ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Vieira throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ship sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Roman Ship seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Vieira cracks Ship with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

It looks like Roman Ship has been cut.

Ship throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Vieira tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ship is in Vieira's guard.

Ship manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Vieira manages to get himself to full guard.

Ship passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Vieira is not content to let Ship control the position.
Ship takes a little break here. Vieira wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Vieira is looking to regain half guard here but Ship keeps moving and retains side control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Ship thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ship has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Vieira is trying to control Ship's posture but Ship avoids it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Roman Ship showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Roman Ship is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Ship fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Vieira manages to avoid it.

Vieira has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Vieira there as he acknowledges the shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jorlan Vieira.
I think Ship has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
