PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johan Joestar (ranked 581 p4p, 731 weight class) and Roman Ship (ranked 26 p4p, 43 weight class). Joestar comes to the cage accompanied by Coda - Bloody Stream. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Johan Joestar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 28 - 1, fighting out of London, Roman Ship!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Ben Hemmingworth and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ship slips under a jab from Joestar.
Joestar throws a combination that misses

and Ship counters with a single leg into guard. Joestar didn't expect that.
Ship trying to control but Joestar is working from the bottom.
Ship pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Joestar is keeping the position for now.
Ship prevents Joestar from getting back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ship is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Joestar wants to get back to his feet but Ship is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ship trying to control the position from guard on top but Joestar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Joestar pushes Ship off and gets back to his feet.
Ship fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Ship looks to land a right hand but Joestar moved out of range.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ship.

Ship is trying to get an arm triangle but Joestar is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Joestar is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Joestar is trying to get back to half guard.

Ship is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Joestar knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Joestar tries to buck Ship off but Ship is having none of it.
Joestar is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ship off and has taken his back!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Joestar's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Ship tries to escape but Joestar has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Ship manages to reverse the position and now he's in Joestar's guard. Nice work there by Ship.
Joestar looking for a sweep. Not yet Joestar, not yet.
Ship won't allow Joestar to get back to his feet.
Ship pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Joestar is keeping the position for now.

Ship stops Joestar from standing up.
Ship wants to control from the top but Joestar keeps moving.

Ship drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Joestar manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ship has Joestar in his guard.

Ship has his hands on Joestar's head, controlling the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ship looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Roman Ship will probably get the nod.

The fighters circling - Ship throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

It looks like Roman Ship has been cut.

Joestar tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

I was talking to Joestar's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Joestar throws a punch but it's blocked by Ship.
Joestar lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Ship backwards.

Ship jumps into guard, dragging Joestar to the mat.

Joestar wants to stand and escape but instead Ship has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Ship is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Joestar is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Joestar has escaped and now he's on top!

Ship keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Joestar throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Joestar throws a leg kick but Ship checks it.
Joestar lands with an overhand left.
Joestar misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ship.
Joestar leaves Ship with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Roman Ship seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Joestar takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Ship throws a predictable looking body shot
letting Joestar counter with a right hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ship stuns Joestar with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Ship fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Joestar avoids it really well and circles away.

Joestar lands a nice looking kick to the body. Ship takes a step back to recover.
Ship takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ship blocks a jab.
Joestar uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ship.
Joestar has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Joestar there as he acknowledges the shot.
Ship misses with an uppercut
and Joestar counters with a low kick, right behind Ship 's knee.

Joestar pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Ship changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Ship connects with a crisp jab.
Ship lands with a good body shot.
Ship checks a leg kick.

Ship on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Ship takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Joestar connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ship tries to close the distance and clinch up but Joestar swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A nice leg kick from Joestar, right into the meat of the thigh.

Ship fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Joestar sprawls well initially but Ship persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Joestar is trying to stand up here but Ship is controlling him well.

Ship wants to work for an arm triangle but Joestar is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ship prevents Joestar from standing back up.

Joestar is refusing to be controlled, as Ship sits in half guard.
Joestar tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Ship manages to move to mount!
Ship with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Ship swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Joestar is now in Ship's guard. A big mistake from Ship there, giving up the dominant position!
Joestar is looking to stand up but Ship won't let him.

Joestar decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ship, up you get!
Ship tries to clinch up.
Joestar keeps the fight on the outside.
An attempted straight right counter from Joestar misses the target.
Joestar uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ship.
Ship tries for a takedown but Joestar sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ship's corner calls for a 1-2. Ship obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Ship misses the body punch
and Joestar counters with a slapping leg kick.
Joestar throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

The cut above Roman Ship's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ship shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Joestar as he jumps to the side.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johan Joestar showed his dominance in that final round.

Johan Joestar decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
