Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Michele Rene Gaspard (ranked 2885 p4p, 2868 weight class) and Luke Smith (ranked 178 p4p, 177 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michele Rene Gaspard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Luke Smith!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Alyssa Summers and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gaspard has Smith up against the cage in a clinch.
Gaspard tries to pull guard but Smith won't allow it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gaspard tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Smith smiles and moves away.
Smith bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Gaspard's head backwards.
Smith throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Smith avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Smith looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Smith uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Gaspard throws an off balance right hand
and Smith counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Gaspard tries to close the distance and clinch up but Smith swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gaspard forces Smith back against the cage and clinches.
Gaspard is trying to pull guard but Smith turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Smith gets through Gaspard's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith can't find room to land a body shot as Gaspard controls the action.
Smith lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Gaspard.
Smith throws a punch but it's blocked by Gaspard.
Gaspard has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Gaspard pulls Smith into guard.
Gaspard working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gaspard has his foot on Smith's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smith works his way back into a safe position though.

Gaspard working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Gaspard is tightening it up a little... Smith has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Smith reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Smith taps out! Nice BJJ there by Gaspard!
