PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Akahoshi Hisashi (ranked 1564 p4p, 2051 weight class) and Albert Hofmann (ranked 210 p4p, 267 weight class). Hisashi comes to the cage accompanied by Feng Shui. Hofmann has chosen Primer 55 - Dose as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Akahoshi Hisashi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Albert Hofmann!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hisashi moves out of range of the strikes.
A little feinted left hand from Hisashi on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Hofmann misses with a combination
and Hisashi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Hofmann looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Hisashi instigates a clinch.
Hofmann blocks an uppercut.
Hofmann tries to pull guard but Hisashi won't allow it.

Hofmann ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hofmann no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Hofmann escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hisashi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hisashi stands up from guard. Let's bang!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hisashi has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Gold Samurai's Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Hisashi lands with a nice combination. Hofmann backs away looking to recover.

It looks like Albert Hofmann has been cut.
Hisashi feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hofmanns jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

and Hofmann counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hofmann.

Hisashi manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Akahoshi Hisashi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hisashi throws a hook to the side of Hofmann's head but Hofmann sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Hofmann is looking to take a break and control but Hisashi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

You get the feeling that Hisashi really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Hofmann has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hisashi's face.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Akahoshi Hisashi will probably get the nod.
