Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chris John (ranked 226 p4p, 1057 weight class) and Johnny Slater (ranked 32 p4p, 147 weight class). John's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Don't Stop Me Now. Johnny Slater has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Chris John's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris John!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Slater!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

John pushes Slater up against the cage in a clinch.
John scores with a nice hook to the head.
John lands a hook that snaps the head of Slater backwards.
Slater misses with a knee to the head.
John misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Slater missing with knees to the body.
I was talking to John's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Slater tries to land knees in the clinch but John avoids the damage to the body.
John gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Slater.

John breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jab from John.
A good leg kick by John.
John connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
John throws a series of punches but Slater moves out of range.
Slater on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
John scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

John lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
John throws a quick inside leg kick.
John dips to his left and cracks Slater with an uppercut!
A lazy left from John finds it's target.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts John, as that shot connected.
John fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Slater has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Chris John is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
John scores with a punch to the head.
John jabs at Slater's body.
John turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
John scores with a hook.
This has been an exciting period of action!

John thuds his shin into the meat of Slater's side.
John throws a head kick that half lands.
Slater needs to keep his hands up - John had a free shot at his head there.
Slater takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
John smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Slater takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Slater is rocked!
John connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
John fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Slater has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Slater takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Slater's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
John lands a slapping body shot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nice uppercut there from John.
John fails with an attempt to clinch.
John misses with a hook. Slater ducked under it nicely.
John catches Slater with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Slater on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Slater takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
John misses with a low kick.
John is looking to slow Slater down with leg kicks.
Slater takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
John lands a nice looking body shot.

John thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Slater if he has to take too many more of those.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
John lands a leg kick that knocks Slater off balance momentarily.
Slater circles away from the clinch attempt.
Slater doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Slater on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
An inside leg kick lands from John.
John throws a body shot but no joy.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Slater! But no joy.
John connects with a looping right hand.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Slater takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
A punch lands to the side of Slater 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Slater looks like he wants to counter punch here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

John lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

John throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Slater takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
John feints and then cracks Slater's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Slater down.
Slater has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
This has been an exciting period of action!

John sends Slater crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! John is motioning to the referee to let Slater up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Slater is still on wobbly legs! Can John finish him?
John fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Slater seems to have recovered his senses.

Slater takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Slater takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
John waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Slater.

John has closed the distance and engaged Slater in a clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Slater.
A right hand to the body from John.

John escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A slapping leg kick lands for John.
John is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Slater can do to turn this around?

John closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Slater gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
John connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
John misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Slater is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
John moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

John rushes Slater and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Slater drops down looking for an ankle pick but John pulls his leg out and moves away.
Slater takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

John lets loose with a powerful body kick. Slater will feel that in the morning.
John scores with a body shot.
Slater has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Slater there as he acknowledges the shot.
A nice leg kick lands there from John.
John scores with a decent looking hook.
John lands a nice shot to the body.
John works Slater's body with a nice hook.
John buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
John scores with a head kick. Slater tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
John dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

John throws a sloppy head kick and Slater moves out of range easily.
John misses with a wild combination.
Slater looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
John buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Slater takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Slater appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
John lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

John thuds his right hand into Slater's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
John comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
John lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A nice inside leg kick there by John. That's going to slow Slater down.
John lands with a thumping leg kick.
Slater on the wrong end of a nice hook.
John scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
John scores with a push kick.
John connects with a good right hand that stumbles Slater. Slater circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Oooooh!!! John has knocked Slater down with a huge combo! John steps away and waves a wobbly Slater back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Slater has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.

Slater on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by John. John obviously looking to wear him down.
John lands a head kick. Slater smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
John drops Slater with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Slater! John dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chris John!

After the fight, Chris John was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
